Out here in Southern Arizona, fall doesn’t come with frostbitten urgency—it tiptoes in with cooler mornings and the luxury of time. That’s why, come early October, I loaded up a dozen dirty, smelly horse blankets and delivered them to Heather Schoffstall of HRS Designs Sewing & Showing here in Hereford. The timing was perfect: our Auld Macdonald Farm horses won’t need their winter-weight gear until late December, and even then, only through March.
