The Empire Ranch is vast. Located on the eastern slope of the Santa Rita Mountains in Cienega Valley, fifty-two miles southeast of Tucson and about 10 miles (16 km) north of Sonoita, it has been a working cattle ranch for 140 years.
The Empire Ranch Foundation holds many public events during the year. One well attended gathering is its annual Cowboy Festival held the first weekend in November. I wrote this November 3, 2021, NewsBreak article detailing various demonstrations, poetry readings, horseback riding adventures and food on hand during the weekend.
